Unlike just about everything else on the show, Mad Men’s theme song happened more or less by accident. According to creator Matthew Weiner, after Beck turned down multiple requests to write the show’s theme – he didn’t think the premise was a good idea – Weiner happened to catch a few seconds of the RJD2 track during a break on NPR’s Marketplace. Turns out Beck was a fan once the show got underway, and the rest, as the kids say, is history.
